⚠️ Magnesium ribbon burns with a brilliant white light that can damage the eyes — wear safety goggles and do not stare at the flame. Use a crucible with lid to control the reaction and oxygen admission. The crucible reaches very high temperatures; handle with tongs and allow to cool fully on a heat-resistant mat before weighing. Magnesium oxide dust is irritating to lungs — avoid inhaling. Dispose of solid product into the labelled waste container.

Calculating the empirical formula of magnesium oxide. Classic chemistry experiment that always yields great results.
